POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING A MOBILE DISCO
When selecting a mobile disco for your reception it is important to make sure you choose wisely.
“Mobile Disco” evokes connotations of blaring music, flashing lights and a booming baseline. Be selective in choosing a mobile disco to avoid spoiling your special day.

1. By word of mouth – selecting a mobile disco by word of mouth or by ear is generally deemed as being the safest way. If you have heard a mobile disco at a function and were impressed by the service that they provided, request a quotation and if the price is acceptable, book them.
2. From a directory / a specialist publication – when you open your directory you will be blown away by the number of mobile discos advertised. Keep the following in when making your selection:
• Price – prices vary tremendously, from a few hundred rand to a few thousand rand. Does the price quoted include lighting and a microphone.
• Equipment – is the disco using professional equipment! Is the equipment in good working order and does the disco have some form of backup if part of the equipment goes down. Check the aesthetics of the equipment.
• Music selection – The ages and music preferences vary considerably and the DJ must be equipped to play a wide selection of music. The correct volume level is imperative. It is essential that you take into consideration the placement of the mobile disco when you plan your seating arrangements.

Always find out whether your mobile disco company charge a rate for a certain number of hours or a set rate for the entire function. It is imperative that you have a pre-function meeting with your DJ. The meeting is best scheduled for the week before the wedding. At the meeting you can discuss with your DJ your first song, walk in song, your speech details, your preferred music choices and the music that you would prefer him to avoid.
By selecting a mobile disco with good references, professional equipment, a wide selection of music and an experienced DJ, you will have the musical score for an evening to be enjoyed by everyone!
SELECTING A LIVE MUSICIAN
When booking a band or classical ensemble, ask to view any video recordings of them performing live (if available). Discuss the band’s style of dress and plan ahead for their meals, the duration of their performance and the number of breaks they’ll need to take. After this has been clarified, request a contract in writing. A quartet or soloist is a wonderful option for the Chapel and to entertain the guests during cocktails. A popular option is to have the solo musician (eg. saxophonist/ violinist/ harpist) play the bride down the aisle and lead the guests through the gardens to cocktails.
